Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
