One of the co-founders of the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has announced that parent company the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch of a new Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, who co-founded the company with his partner, disclosed how he will independently develop this new flavor as part of an individual series highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Creators versus Parent Company

This latest development deepens the continuing conflict among the world-famous ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the British consumer goods giant which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders maintain that the parent company and its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented their company from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Flavor as an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated via an Instagram video how he is creating a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, requesting public suggestions regarding naming options and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder commented in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as a symbol of support for Palestinians because of its coloration, which match those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism and Current Developments

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which originally established in 2016 to support ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Changes and Upcoming Intentions

Mr. Cohen revealed that he will develop other ice cream flavors focusing on concerns which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned from the company recently, after many years with the organization, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen stated that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work within the organization to fight for its independence so that it can fulfill the social mission, the principles which established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he told journalists.
