The loved ones of teens unaccounted for after a devastating inferno at a venue in a Switzerland's ski resort are enduring an excruciating wait for confirmed information and appealing for clues about their loved ones publicly.
The fire engulfed the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Confirmed video show the roof structure catching alight as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.
Authorities have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the victims of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and wounded another scores more. Officials stated on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been identified, with the process ongoing to identify the remaining few.
In the waiting period, loved ones have been using online platforms to plead for information about their loved ones who were present at the venue that night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had returned to Lausanne to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in the capital, but could not find him.
"This is a living nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she told the paper.
She added that some of his companions had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through an absolute nightmare."
The Italy's foreign ministry has confirmed that six of its citizens have not been located.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, originally from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is dead, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who represented dedication and authentic values."
His parent, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An representative has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise unaccounted for. His mother explained that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with a group and found himself at the venue.
