McKenna's Position on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "a really big football club" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and guided the team to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they currently sit twelfth place in the Championship.

"I have not had such conversations," the English capital native former Irish youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is this week.

"I have a special position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial stage of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Context and Agreement Aspects

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "I don't think all people has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a really big football club."

McKenna signed a new four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he responded. "I don't know what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this job like I'll be Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as long as I am here."

Bellamy's Position

Bellamy played for Celtic on loan from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Wales striker is inclined to complete the ongoing global tournament campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.

Wales are currently in third place in their World Cup group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in November would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, due to a successful Nations League campaign, should they fail to end up their group second place.

Considering his current stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement concludes after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
